MMS Splits Wins with Bradford

McKENZIE (October 21) — McKenzie Middle School hosted Bradford Monday for a pair of basketball contests. The Lady Red Devils pulled away in the second quarter to top the Lady Rebels, 42-15. The Rebels likewise made their mark in the second frame, outscoring the Red Devils 7-0 en route to a 38-15 victory.
Lady Red Devils 42, Lady Rebels 15
Bradford outscored McKenzie 9-4 in the opening frame, led by Channing Alexander with five points. Brooklyn Armstrong scored four. Alleigh Britt had all four Lady Rebel points.
A 19-2 advantage in the second quarter had the Lady Red Devils in control. Armstrong scored 13 points, and Alexander added six, including a three-pointer. Abby Carroll had McKenzie’s lone bucket. At the half, Bradford led, 28-6.
McKenzie doubled their total in the third but were still outpaced 11-6. MaKaren Jacobs led Bradford with four points. Alexander hit another three, and Armstong and Emma Maggard each had a pair. Lady Rebel Ridley Holt hit a three-pointer, and Charlie Cassidy had three free throws. Entering the final frame, the Lady Red Devils led 39-12.
The fourth was a 3-3 wash. Alexander hit another three, Carroll had a pair and Holt hit a free throw.
Bradford’s Brooklyn Armstong led all scorers with 19 points. Channing Alexander had 17, including a trio of threes.
Lady Rebels Abby Carroll, Alleigh Britt and Ridley Holt each scored four points, Holt with a three-pointer.
Rebels 38, Red Devils 15
McKenzie had a 9-6 edge after the first frame, led by Sammy Willen with three points. Lane Brown, Dawson Reeder and Parker Ross each had a pair. Red Devils O. Thetford and B. Graves each hit a three-pointer.
The Rebels held Bradford scoreless in the second quarter, scoring seven on four from Ross, two from Reeder and a free throw by Seth Stafford. At the half, McKenzie led, 16-6.
McKenzie grew the lead with an 11-7 advantage in the third, led by Stafford with five points. Reeder, Ross and Hudson Garrett each had a pair. E. Leyhue led the Red Devils with four points, and P. Counts had three. Heading into the final frame, McKenzie led, 27-13.
The Rebels closed the win with an 11-2 fourth-quarter tilt, led by Reeder and Ross with four points each. Jaden Blanton added a pair, and Willen hit a freebie. Leyhue had the lone Bradford bucket.
Rebel Parker Ross led all scorers with 12 points. Dawson Reeder scored ten, and Seth Stafford had six points.
E. Leyhue led the Red Devils with six points.
