McKenzie Police Department Issues Fireworks Safety Reminder
From the Jun 30, 2026 e-EditionAs Independence Day approaches, the McKenzie Police Department has issued a fireworks safety reminder to residents.
“Please enjoy the beautiful firework displays responsibly and remember that safety comes first,” the department shared.
A few important reminders:
- Be considerate of your neighbors, pets and veterans.
- Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby in case of fire.
- Only adults should handle fireworks.
- Never relight a “dud” firework.
- Follow all local laws and ordinances.
City Ordinance Reminder
The purchase and discharge of fireworks within the City of McKenzie is governed by specific ordinances.
Fireworks can be sold during two specific time periods: June 20–July 5 and December 20–January 1.
Fireworks may be discharged from June 27–July 5 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. and December 31 at 8 a.m. through January 1 at 1 a.m.
Fireworks are prohibited within 600 feet of businesses, churches, hospitals, schools and asylums.
No one under the age of 18 can purchase fireworks. Intoxicated persons also cannot purchase fireworks.
The city may require permits for certain types of fireworks displays.
Violations can result in fines.

The City of McKenzie will have food trucks set up at or around 6 p.m. at McKenzie City Park on July 4. The city’s annual fireworks display begins at approximately dusk. The park will close to traffic at 4 p.m.
