Mustangs Hold Off Bulldog Rally in Semifinal

HUNTINGDON (May 1) — The Huntingdon High School Mustangs clinched a spot in the District 12AA Baseball Tournament championship with a 7-5 win over the Milan Bulldogs in Friday’s semifinal round.

Milan struck first with two runs in the top of the first inning. The Mustangs cut the deficit with a run in the home half, then took the lead with three in the second. The Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the third, but Huntingdon answered with two, then added another in the fourth. After two scoreless frames, a Milan rally in the seventh came up short at two runs.

Mustang Silas Sharp was 2-for-2 with a double, a sacrifice fly, two walks and four RBIs. Colt Wood was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Hayes Eubanks was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Owen Kreuziger was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Caleb Ezell was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI. Broox Bennett was 1-for-4. Braylin Dearmon was 1-for-5. Cy Hankins was 0-for-2 with two walks.

Bulldog James Carter was 4-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs, a run scored and two stolen bases. Lincoln Reel was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored. Zack Fowler was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Colton Mallard was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Whitten Dobbs and Caden Rogers were both 1-for-3 with a walk. Will Johnson was 1-for-4 with a run scored. JP Scott was 0-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored.

Caleb Ezell earned the win for Huntingdon, allowing five earned runs on ten hits while walking two and striking out five in six and two-thirds innings. Cy Hankins pitched to four batters, allowing no runs on one hit with two walks. Owen Kreuziger threw the final third of an inning, allowing no runs, hits or walks.

Jaydon Moore got the start for Milan, allowing four earned runs on two hits while walking four and striking out one in one inning. Parker Sparks threw four innings of relief and took the loss, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits while walking three and striking out four. Alex Nelson pitched the final inning, allowing no runs or hits with one walk and one strikeout.
