Mustangs Claim Title with 1-0 Thriller over Rebels

MARTIN (May 7) — The Huntingdon High School Mustangs claimed the District 12A Soccer Tournament championship Wednesday with a thrilling, 1-0 win over McKenzie.

Both teams advance to region play.

Mustang Greyson Anderson scored the lone goal on a header early in the second half, assisted by Mateo Jorge-Perez on a corner kick.

Rebel goalkeeper Nate Dameron had six saves in the contest, and Mustang goalkeeper Gage Foster had eight.

Following the game, district and tournament awards were announced.

The All-District team included McKenzie's Eian Gibson, Oscar Calderon, Alex Garcia, Skyler Fornera, Guillermo Hickman and Aiden Mason; Huntingdon's Mateo Jorge-Perez, Samuel Derryberry, Greyson Anderson and Israel Fosnot; Clarksburg's Gabriel Derryberry and Connor Allen; and Hollow Rock-Bruceton's Sal Sala and Grayson Thompson.

McKenzie's Emil Schreitmueller was named Defensive Player of the Year. McKenzie's Nate Dameron and Huntingdon's Gage Foster were named Co-Goalkeepers of the Year.

The All-Tournament team included Huntingdon's Jace Crossett, Mateo Jorge-Perez, Gage Foster, Greyson Anderson, Samuel Derryberry, Israel Fosnot and Kelton Johnson; McKenzie's Ramon Renteria-Tellez, Jony Hernandez, Skyler Fornera, Morgan Christman, Triztan Vela and Eli Vinson; Hollow Rock-Bruceton's Seth Thomas and Evan Joseph; and Clarksburg's Connor Allen and Gabriel Derryberry.

The All-Academic team (seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA) included McKenzie's Emil Schreitmueller, Alex Garcia, Skyler Fornera, Guillermo Hickman, Eli Vinson and Pedro Mendez; Huntingdon's Jace Crossett, Israel Fosnot, Samuel Derryberry and Mateo Jorge-Perez; and Hollow Rock-Bruceton's Brylinn Hampton.
