Mustangs Edge Rebels, 7-6

McKENZIE (March 9) — McKenzie Middle School hosted Huntingdon Monday for a conference baseball contest. A back-and-forth battle ended in a 7-6 Mustang win after five innings, cut short for the two-hour time limit.
The Rebels struck first with a run in the bottom of the first and added another in the second. Huntingdon plated three in the top of the third to take the lead, but McKenzie scored three in the fourth for a 6-3 lead. The Mustangs managed the four runs needed to take the lead in the fifth and held the Rebels scoreless in the home half to claim the win.
Mustang Max Kelley was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs. Bryson Bolen was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Cohen Gray was 1-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Banks Butler was 1-for-2 with a run scored. Griffin Todd was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Bryce Maddox was 0-for-2 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Elijah Harris was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Miller Holmes was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Rebel Seth Stafford was 2-for-3 with an RBI, two runs scored and two stolen bases. Lane Brown was 1-for-1 with a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Jake Ghyers was 1-for-1 with an RBI and a stolen base. Dierks Ghyers was 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base. Leighem Broyles was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored.
Bryson Bolen got the start for Huntingdon on the mound, allowing three runs (two earned) on four hits while walking five and striking out three in two and a third innings. Bryce Maddox pitched the final two and two-thirds innings and earned the win, allowing three earned runs on one hit while walking two and striking out one.
Seth Stafford started for McKenzie and took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on six hits while walking three and striking out five in four innings. Leighem Broyles pitched the final inning, allowing one earned run on two hits while walking two and striking out one.
