Mustangs Edge Rebels, 5-4

HUNTINGDON (March 27) — The second day of Huntingdon High School's annual Diamond Classic baseball tournament began with the host Mustangs taking on rival McKenzie. The Rebels led 4-2 going into the seventh, but Huntingdon tied it to force extra innings and claimed a 5-4 win in the eighth.

McKenzie struck first with a run in the top of the first. The Mustangs tied it with a run in the bottom of the third, then took the lead with one in the fourth. The Rebels regained the advantage with two runs in the fifth and added another in the sixth. Huntingdon scored two to tie it in the bottom of the seventh, then won it on a walk-off in the eighth.

Mustang Broox Bennett was 1-for-4 with a home run. Hayes Eubanks was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Caleb Ezell was 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Silas Sharp was 1-for-3 with a double. Maddox Holmes and Colt Wood were each 1-for-2 with a run scored. Owen Hugueley was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Rebel Xander Johnsey was 1-for-4 with a double, a walk and two runs scored. Cooper Davidson was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Lelan Gordon was 2-for-4. Ace Brown was 1-for-3. Parker Ross was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Avery Brown was 1-for-4. Cole Brown was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Owen Kreuziger got the start for Huntingdon, allowing four unearned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out six in six innings. Cy Hankins earned the win with two innings of relief, allowing no runs on two hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Xander Johnsey started for McKenzie, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits while walking two and striking out seven in seven innings. Cooper Davidson pitched a third of an inning of relief and took the loss, allowing one unearned run on no hits with no walks.
