Mustangs Fall to South Gibson
From the Mar 31, 2026 e-EditionHUNTINGDON (March 26) — The annual Huntingdon Diamond Classic baseball tournament began Thursday with a pair of games. Headlining the first day were the host Huntingdon High School Mustangs taking on South Gibson. The visiting Hornets scored in four innings to claim a 10-3 win.
South Gibson struck first with three runs in the top of the first. They added three more in the top of the fourth, and Huntingdon got on the board with a run in the home half. The Mustangs added a pair in the fifth, but the Hornets plated one in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Mustang Broox Bennett was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. Braylin Dearmon was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a stolen base. Hayes Eubanks and Cy Hankins were each 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Kainan Moore was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Colt Wood was 0-for-1 with two walks and two stolen bases.
Hornet Thomas Baker was 1-for-2 with a home run, two walks, three RBIs, three runs scored and two stolen bases. Davis McKinney was 3-for-4 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Cade Allen was 1-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Jacob Bateman was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Griffin Stewart was 0-for-0 with a walk and a run scored. Brock Beasley was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. Cason Coggins was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.
Cason Coggins earned the win for South Gibson, allowing one earned run on two hits while walking four and striking out three in four innings. Lucas Krawczyk pitched one inning of relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits with no walks and one strikeout. Griffin Stewart also threw one frame, allowing no runs or hits while walking one and striking out two. Levi Edwards pitched a third of an inning with no runs, hits or walks. Thomas Baker recorded the final two outs with no runs or hits, walking two and striking out one.
Caleb Ezell took the loss for Huntingdon, allowing three unearned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out one in three innings. Kenton Smith pitched three innings of relief, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits with three walks and four strikeouts. Maddox Holmes threw the final frame, allowing three earned runs on one hit while walking two and striking out two.
