Mustangs Finish Runner-Up

HUNTINGDON (May 9) — The Huntingdon High School Mustangs are the Region 6AA Baseball runner-up and advance to the Sectional round with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon. First, they topped Stewart County, 7-2, then avenged a Friday night loss against Sycamore with an 11-4 victory.
The Mustangs travel to face Cascade Wednesday in a best-of-three Sectional series. The winner advances to the state tournament.
Huntingdon Mustangs 7, Stewart County Rebels 2
Stewart County struck first with a run in the bottom of the first, but Huntingdon tied it in the top of the second and took the lead with a run in the third. The Mustangs added two more in the fifth. The Rebels scored a run in the sixth, and Huntingdon plated three in the seventh.
Mustang Hayes Eubanks was 1-for-3 with a home run, a sacrifice fly, three RBIs and one run scored. Silas Sharp was 1-for-1 with two walks, an RBI and a run scored. Colt Wood was 1-for-2 with two walks and an RBI. Cy Hankins was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Caleb Ezell was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Owen Kreuziger was 1-for-4. Kenton Smith was 0-for-1 with three walks, an RBI and a run scored.
Rebel Ben Hendricks was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Brigham Page was 1-for-2 with a walk. Brayden Threatt was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Blake Lehman and Landon Green were both 1-for-3.
Owen Kreuziger earned the complete-game win for Huntingdon, allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits while walking two and striking out two.
Collin Howell took the loss for Stewart County, allowing four earned runs on two hits while walking nine and striking out three in five innings. Brayden Threatt pitched the final two frames, allowing three earned runs on four hits while walking one and striking out one.
Mustangs 11, Sycamore War Eagles 4
Sycamore got on the board quickly with a run in the top of the first, but Huntingdon answered with two in the home half to take the lead. The War Eagles tied it with a run in the top of the third, but the Mustangs again responded with two in the bottom half. Sycamore knotted the score again with two in the top of the fourth, but Huntingdon put up four in the home half to secure the lead for good and added three more in the sixth.
Mustang Braylin Dearmon was 2-for-4 with a home run, five RBIs, three runs scored and a stolen base. Broox Bennett was 2-for-4 with a home run, two RBIs and one run scored. Hayes Eubanks was 3-for-4 with two doubles. Silas Sharp was 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Caleb Ezell was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Kenton Smith was 1-for-4 with an RBI.
War Eagle Drake Perry Was 2-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored. Braxton Quinnan was 2-for-3 with an RBI. Nathaniel Batson was 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Kenton Smith earned the complete-game win for Huntingdon, allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits while walking two and striking out nine.
Wesley Parker took the loss for Sycamore, allowing eight earned runs on ten hits while walking none and striking out one in four innings. Drake Perry threw the final two frames, allowing three unearned runs on two hits while walking none and striking out one.
