Mustangs, Panthers Split Home-Away Set

DECATURVILLE/HUNTINGDON (April 2-3) — Huntingdon High School baseball split a home-away set with the Riverside Panthers to end the week. Thursday, the Panthers hosted and took an 8-1 win. Friday, the Mustangs avenged the loss at home with a 14-4 victory in five innings.

Panthers 8, Mustangs 1
Thursday in Decaturville, Huntingdon struck first with a run in the top of the first frame. Riverside tied it with one in the bottom of the second, then opened up a lead with four in the third and three in the fourth.

Mustang Caleb Ezell was 2-for-3. Silas Sharp was 1-for-4 with a double. Broox Bennett was 0-for-2 with an RBI sacrifice fly. Colt Wood was 1-for-1. Hayes Eubanks was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Cy Hankins and Maddox Holmes were each 1-for-3.

Panther Cole Yarbro was 2-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Cody Brasher was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Colt Brooks was 1-for-1 with a walk and an RBI. James England was 1-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Anderson Thompson was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Asher Creasey was 1-for-3 with a run scored and a stolen base. Landon Vaughan was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Brilan Crawford was 1-for-4 with a run scored.

Colt Brooks earned the complete-game win for Riverside, allowing one earned run on seven hits while walking one and striking out one.

Cy Hankins took the loss for Huntingdon, allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits while walking one and striking out two in two innings. Kainan Moore pitched one inning of relief, allowing two earned runs on two hits while walking one and striking out one. Maddox Holmes threw the final three frames, allowing one unearned run on two hits while striking out two and walking two.

Mustangs 14, Panthers 4
Friday in Huntingdon, Riverside struck first with a run in the top of the second inning. The Mustangs took the lead with a pair in the home half. The Panthers scored three to regain the lead in the top of the third, and Huntingdon tied it with two in the bottom half. The Mustangs took the lead with another pair in the fourth, then erupted for eight in the fifth to end the game.

Mustang Braylin Dearmon was 3-for-3 with two home runs, a triple, a walk, five RBIs and three runs scored. Broox Bennett was 3-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Kenton Smith was 2-for-2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and two runs scored. Caleb Ezell was 1-for-2 with two RBIs. Silas Sharp was 2-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored. Cy Hankins was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run scored. Hayes Eubanks was 1-for-4 with two RBIs. Kainan Moore was 0-for-1 with two walks and two runs scored.

Panther James England was 2-for-3 with a home run, three RBIs and a run scored. Colt Brooks was 2-for-2 with a run scored and a stolen base. Landon Wyatt was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Cole Yarbro and Landon Vaughan were each 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Owen Kreuziger earned the complete-game win for Huntingdon, allowing four runs (three earned) on eight hits while walking none and striking out four.

Cole Yarbro took the loss for Riverside, allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits while walking three in three and a third innings. Kahlil Strode pitched two-thirds of an inning, allowing five earned runs on three hits while walking three. Landon Wyatt threw the final third of an inning, allowing five runs (three earned) on five hits with no walks.
