Mustangs Score at Will Against Pioneers

DYER — Huntingdon picked up its sixth win of the season as the Mustangs whipped up on the Gibson County Pioneers. The Mustangs were able to post 44 unanswered points and produced a running clock early in the match-up.

In the first quarter, Huntingdon was able to score at will. At the 10:56 mark, Brady Warbritton picked up his first touchdown of the night. Greyson Anderson tacked on the extra point for the 7-0 lead.

On their next offensive series, Huntingdon’s Aiden Hilliard busted a 69-yard run. On first-and-goal from the one yard line, Hilliard was in for the touchdown. Anderson added the PAT as the Mustangs led 14-0.

At the 4:03 mark of the first quarter, Warbritton scored on the option from 29 yards out. Anderson’s extra point pushed Huntingdon’s lead 21-0.

With 39 seconds to play in the first quarter, Gray Eubanks picked up a 45-yard touchdown. Anderson’s PAT was good making the score 28-0.

To wrap up the quarter, Warbritton sacked Pioneer quarterback Coree Wells putting the Mustangs up 30-0 to end the first quarter.

The Mustangs picked up two additional touchdowns in the second quarter. Tyreke Hutch scored a counter-option from 21 yards out and Easton Byars busted loose up the middle from five yards out. The pair of PATs by Anderson made the final score 44-0.

With a running clock, the game ticked away rapidly as Huntingdon moved to 6-2 on the regular season and 4-1 in Region 6-2A. The win moved Huntingdon into second place in the region. With two weeks to play before the playoffs, the Mustangs face two region opponents, Camden and Peabody.

Next Friday night, the Mustangs (6-2) return to Paul Ward Stadium to play the Camden Lions (4-5).
