Mustangs Runners-Up as Coca-Cola Classic Hosts

HUNTINGDON (December 27-30) — Huntingdon High School hosted its annual Point Guard Club Coca-Cola Classic with eight boys teams participating in three days of tournament action.

Friday’s winners played in semifinals on Saturday, while teams defeated on Friday played on in the lower bracket. The tournament wrapped up Monday with contests to determine seventh, fifth and third place, respectively, followed by the championship game between the host Mustangs and the USJ Bruins.

Championship: USJ Bruins 65, Huntingdon Mustangs 49
USJ had an 11-7 edge after the first frame, led by Mills Terry with six points. Reid Finney scored three points, and Wallace Driver had a pair. Mustang Kenton Smith scored four, and Bryson Whiteside hit a three-pointer.

Huntingdon stormed ahead with a 17-6 advantage in the second quarter, led by Smith with seven points, including a three-pointer. Caleb Ezell scored four, and Keeton Johnson hit a three. EJ Lewis had a pair, and Whiteside hit a free throw. Terry had all six Bruin points, including a three. At the half, the Mustangs led 24-17.

The Bruins regained the lead with a 25-10 tilt in the third, led by Terry with nine points. Corben Howard scored eight points. Driver had five points with a three, and Sam Keyl also hit a three-pointer. Ezell hit a three for Huntingdon. Whiteside, Braylin Dearmon and Hayes Eubanks each had a pair, and Smith hit a freebie. Heading into the final frame, the Bruins led 42-34.

USJ sealed the title victory with a 23-15 fourth-quarter advantage, led by Keyl with nine points, including a three-pointer. Driver and Finney each scored five, Driver with a three. Terry and Howard each added a pair. Smith led Huntingdon with nine points, including a three. Ezell hit another three-pointer, Dearmon added a pair, and Whiteside hit a freebie.

Bruin Mills Terry led all scorers with 23 points, including a three-pointer. Wallace Driver and Sam Keyl each scored a dozen, each with a pair of threes. Corben Howard had ten points.

Kenton Smith led the Mustangs with 21 points, including a pair of threes. Caleb Ezell scored ten with a pair of threes.

Third Place: Riverside Panthers 90, Greenfield Yellowjackets 73
Riverside had a 21-18 edge after the opening frame, but Greenfield rallied 24-15 in the second quarter for a 42-36 lead at the break.

The Panthers regained the lead with a 25-17 advantage in the third and pulled away 29-14 in the fourth to claim third place in the tournament.

Panther Jack Cupples led all scorers with 27 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Colt Brooks scored 21, and Landon Swindle had 16 points. Matthew Wyatt scored ten with a three, and Austin Shelton had six points. Kutter Potts scored four, and Maxx Beasley, Jon Parker Graves and Jase England each had a pair.

Cruze Porter led Greenfield with 25 points, including a trio of threes. Nick Brown scored 14 with a three. Brady Archie had eight points. Kinzer Pratt and Westin Porter each scored six, Porter with a three. Easton Sullivan had five with a three. Baker Biggs, Knox Liggett and Will Edwards each scored three points.

Fifth Place: Gibson County Pioneers 82, Clarksburg Rockets 36
The Pioneers doubled up Clarksburg 24-12 in the first frame and outscored the Rockets 26-7 in the second for a 50-19 halftime lead.

Advantages of 23-13 and 9-4 in the third and fourth quarters, respectively, earned Gibson County a fifth place finish.

Pioneer Kylan Finch led all scorers with 26 points, including a three. Coree Wells scored a dozen, and Ryan Goad had eleven points with a three-pointer. Trajan Eddings scored six on a pair of threes, and Isaiah DeBerry also had six points. Jayden Southerland and Jakayden Irie each scored five. Dillon Reynolds had four points, Skylar Robertson hit a three, and DeMariah Wright and Darius Riding each had a pair.

Weston Vestal led the Rockets with seven points. Trae Cobb scored six. Jake Miller and Clay Glosson each had five, Miller with a three-pointer. Gabriel Derryberry scored four. Garrett Barthlolmew, Kannon Hampton and Max Cawthon each had a pair, and Richie Lewis, Chase Hollingshead and Reagan Hatler each hit a free throw.

Seventh Place: Lake County Falcons 64, West Carroll War Eagles 36
The Falcons led 21-11 after the opening frame and pulled away 20-2 in the second quarter to lead 41-13 at the half.

The War Eagles had a 12-9 edge in the third, but Lake County sealed a seventh-place finish with a 14-11 advantage in the fourth.

West Carroll’s Kayden Melton led all scorers with 23 points, including a trio of three-pointers. Skyler Wilhite scored eight with a pair of threes. Demarion Gilbert had four points, and Chandler Rimmer hit a free throw.

Camden Chamberlain led the Falcons with 17 points. Jataveon Ricks scored 14, and Aikee Ward had seven with a three. Nigel Clark had six points. Xander Hartel and Cade Lanier each scored five, each with a three. Brady Smith had four points, and Tyquan Kinney, Eli Avery and Randy Demo each had a pair.

Semifinal: Mustangs 84, Yellowjackets 63
Huntingdon jumped out to a 27-12 lead after the first frame and had a 19-12 advantage in the second to lead 46-24 at the half.

Greenfield had a 20-18 edge in the third, but the Mustangs secured a spot in the championship with a 20-19 tilt in the fourth.

Mustang Kenton Smith led all scorers with 24 points, including a three-pointer. Caleb Ezell scored 20 with a trio of threes. EJ Lewis had 18 points with a pair of threes. Braylin Dearmon scored ten, and Bryson Whiteside had seven points with a three. Hayes Eubanks scored five.

Cruze Porter led the Yellowjackets with 21 points, including a pair of threes. Easton Sullivan had a dozen, and Nick Brown scored eleven with a three. Knox Liggett had seven points. Baker Biggs, Anthony Green and Caden Sparkman each scored four.

Semifinal: Bruins 53, Panthers 43
Riverside dominated the first frame 13-2, but USJ had an 18-12 advantage in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 25-20 at the half.

The Bruins pulled ahead and then some with a 21-7 tilt in the third and sealed the win and a title game appearance with a 12-11 edge in the fourth.

Bruin Mills Terry led all scorers with 18 points. Corben Howard and Reid Finney each scored eleven, Howard with a trio of threes. Charlie Reddon had eight points with a three, Sam Keyl hit a three, and Noah Spencer had a pair.

Jack Cupples led Riverside with 14 points, including a three. Austin Shelton scored nine points. Gavin McClain and Landon Swindle each scored five, McClain with a three-pointer. Kutter Potts, Aidan Lunsford, Matthew Wyatt, Colt Brooks and Jase England each had a pair.

Lower Bracket: Rockets 58, War Eagles 40
Clarksburg had an 11-6 lead after the first frame. After a 12-12 wash in the second quarter, the Rockets led 23-18 at the half.

The Rockets had a 17-16 edge in the third and an 18-6 tilt in the fourth to claim a spot in the fifth-place game.

Clarksburg’s Trae Cobb led all scorers with 17 points. Kannon Hampton scored 16 with a three-pointer. Jake Miller had ten points, and Gabriel Derryberry had seven. Weston Vestal scored four, Clay Glosson had three points, and Chase Hollingshead hit a free throw.

Chandler Rimmer led West Carroll with 16 points. Kayden Melton scored ten. Isaiah Snyder and Mason Taylor each had five points, Demarion Gilbert had a pair, and Trey Williamson and Skyler Wilhite each hit a free throw.

Lower Bracket: Pioneers 79, Falcons 54
Lake County led 19-16 after the opening frame, but Gibson County answered with a 18-16 advantage in the second to take a 44-35 halftime lead.

The Pioneers padded the lead with an 18-14 edge in the third then clinched a berth in the fifth-place contest with a 19-5 tilt in the fourth.

Pioneers Trajan Eddings and Kylan Finch led all scorers with 20 points each, Eddings with five three-pointers and Finch with one. Isaiah DeBerry scored 15, and Ryan Goad had 13 points with a trio of threes. Coree Wills scored eight, Skylar Robertson had three points, and Dillon Reynolds had a pair.

Xander Hertel led Lake County with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Aikee Ward scored 18, also with five threes. Jataveon Ricks had 13 points, and Camden Chamberlain and Tyquan Kinney each had a pair.

Quarterfinal: Bruins 60, Pioneers 47
The Bruins had a 21-9 lead after the first frame, but Gibson County cut the deficit with a 13-7 advantage in the second quarter. At the half, USJ led 28-22.

The Pioneers pulled within three points with a 17-14 edge in the third, but USJ closed strong with an 18-8 tilt in the fourth.

Pioneer Isaiah DeBerry led all scorers with 24 points. Kylan Finch scored 16 with four three-pointers. Dillon Reynolds had five, and Ryan Goad had a pair.

Reid Finney led the Bruins with 19 points. Mills Terry scored 16 with a three. Sam Keyl had nine points, and Corben Howard had eight. Wallace Driver scored five with a three, Noah Spencer had a pair, and Charlie Redden hit a free throw.

Quarterfinal: Yellowjackets 78, Rockets 56
After a 15-15 wash in the first frame, Greenfield pulled ahead with a 23-14 advantage in the second quarter to lead 38-29 at the break.

The Yellowjackets had a 21-16 edge in the third, and the fourth was another wash, 19-19.

Greenfield’s Cruze Porter led all scorers with 24 points, including a pair of three-pointers. Nick Brown scored 16, also with a pair of threes. Brady Archie and Easton Sullivan each had ten points. Anthony Green scored five, and Brody Guerin hit a three. Caden Sparkman, Westin Porter, Knox Liggett, Will Edwards and Phillip Scates each had a pair.

Gabriel Derryberry led Clarksburg with 13 points. Kannan Hampton had a dozen, including a pair of threes. Jake Miller scored eight, and Weston Vestal had six points. Reagan Halter scored five with a three, and Trae Cobb had four points. Ritchie Lewis hit a three, and Conner Allen also scored three points. Garrett Bartholomew and Nate Ward each hit a free throw.

Quarterfinal: Panthers 76, Falcons 72
The Panthers led 14-9 after the opening frame and extended that with a 21-11 advantage in the second quarter. At the half, Riverside led 35-20.

Riverside had a 23-19 edge in the third, and a Falcon rally in the fourth fell just short at 29-22.

Panthers Landon Swindle and Jack Cupples led all scorers with 24 points each, Swindle with a pair of threes and Cupples with one. Austin Shelton scored 14 with a three. Matthew Wyatt and Kutter Potts each scored six, Wyatt with a three. Jase England had a pair.

Camden Chamberlain led Lake County with 20 points, including four three-pointers. Aikee Ward scored 19 with a trio of threes. Xander Hershel had 17 points with four threes. J’Braylon Mays had a dozen on four three-pointers. Jataveion Ricks and Tyevan Kinney each had a pair.

Quarterfinal: Mustangs 75, War Eagles 20
Huntingdon jumped out to a 28-7 lead after the first frame and had a 16-2 advantage in the second for a 44-9 lead at the half.

The Mustangs enjoyed an 18-4 tilt in the third and sealed the win with a 13-7 edge in the fourth.

Mustang Kenton Smith led all scorers with 21 points, including a pair of threes. Hayes Eubanks scored seven with a three. Owen Kreuziger had six on a pair of threes, and EJ Lewis also scored six. Zayden Connelly and Kelton Johnson each had five, each with a three. Braylin Dearmon scored four points. Caleb Ezell and Bryson Whiteside each hit a three, and Kylen Turner also scored three points. Garvin Kee, Owen King, Jeramyah Cannon, Tyreke Hutch and Lucas Smith each had a pair.
