Mustangs Sweep Waverly in Home-Away Set

WAVERLY/HUNTINGDON (April 13-14) — Huntingdon High School baseball started the week with a home-away set against district foe Waverly. Two very different games ended with the same result: a Mustang win. On the road Monday, Huntingdon dominated the Tigers in five innings, 13-1. Tuesday, at home, the Mustangs trailed early before tying the score in the fifth and winning on a walk-off in the seventh, 4-3.

Huntingdon Mustangs 13, Waverly Tigers 1

The Mustangs wasted no time in Monday's road game, scoring seven runs in the top of the first. Waverly's lone run came in the home half. Huntingdon's bats cooled until a six-run burst in the fifth ended the game early.

Mustang Hayes Eubanks was 3-for-3 with a double, a walk, five RBIs, two runs scored and a stolen base. Silas Sharp was 1-for-3 with a walk, two RBIs and two runs scored. Kenton Smith was 2-for-3 with a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Cy Hankins was 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored. Colt Wood was 0-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored. Owen Kreuziger was 0-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Caleb Ezell was 0-for-1 with two runs scored.

Tiger Bryce Griffin was 2-for-2. Brenden Dilley was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Kycen Damesworth and Brodie Davis were each 1-for-3.

Caleb Ezell earned the complete-game win for Huntingdon, allowing one unearned run on five hits while walking two and striking out eight.

Brenden Selph took the loss for Waverly, allowing seven runs (one earned) on one hit while walking eight and striking out six in an inning and two-thirds. Cole Bailey pitched two and a third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on three hits while walking none and striking out three. Kaz Cooksey threw two-thirds of an inning, allowing two earned runs on three hits while walking one and striking out one. Kerry Johnson faced one batter and recorded the final out.

Mustangs 4, Tigers 3

Waverly struck first in Tuesday's game with a run in the top of the first, then added another in the second. Huntingdon got on the board with a run in the bottom of the third. The Tigers added a run in the top of the fifth, and the Mustangs tied it with two in the home half. Huntingdon walked off with a run in the bottom of the seventh.

Mustang Kenton Smith was 2-for-3 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Braylin Dearmon was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Cy Hankins was 1-for-1. Broox Bennett was 1-for-4 with a run scored. Hayes Eubanks was 0-for-1 with two walks and a run scored.

Tiger Malachi Burns was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Brodie Davis was 2-for-3 with a double, a sacrifice fly, an RBI and a run scored. Lucas Wilson was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Brenden Dilley was 1-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Bryce Griffin was 1-for-1. Brenden Selph was 1-for-3 with a run scored.

Kenton Smith got the start for Huntingdon, allowing three runs (one earned) on seven hits while walking none and striking out five in five innings. Cy Hankins pitched the final two innings and earned the win, allowing no runs on one hit and a walk.

Bryce Spann started for Waverly, allowing three runs (one earned) on four hits while walking five and striking out three in five and two-thirds innings. Kycen Damesworth pitched the final two-thirds of an inning and took the loss, allowing one unearned run on one hit with no walks and a strikeout.
