From the Feb 18, 2025 e-EditionMyrtle Mae Morris Allen died February 10, 2025, at Crestwood Medical Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Having been a resident of Crown Health Care, Fort Payne, Alabama after a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease.
Born in a sharecropper home on April 7, 1933, to Andrew “Andy” and Myrtle (Morris) Morris of McKenzie, Tennessee.
In 1948, she married Calvin Allen, relocating in 1950 to Paducah, Kentucky. In 2022, she moved with her daughter and family to rural Fort Payne, Alabama, on top of Look Out Mountain.
She is survived by her daughter, Julia Yvonne Allen Winnett (Warren) Wilson of Fort Payne, Alabama; granddaughter, Shannan Dawn Winnett (Dustin) Freeman; great-grandchildren, Hannah-Marie Dawn Griggs (Brandon) Gerle, Jaxton Allen-Winnett Freeman; great-great-grandson, Jace Joseph Elza Gerle, all of Fort Payne, Alabama.
Ridgeway Funeral Home had charge of arrangements.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin Thomas Allen; siblings, Jimmy Morris, Mattie Lee Morris Winston, L.B. Morris, Bessie Morris Allen, James Henry Morris; and her very special best friend, Mary Tolley.
There will be no visitation or service. Mrs. Allen will be laid to rest beside her husband at Enon Baptist Church at 13025 US 79 McKenzie, TN on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in her honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, local Salvation Army, local VFW, or Crown Health Care.
