News From Lakeside Senior Living Community
From the Sep 3, 2024 e-Edition
Greetings, Last month we gave a shoutout to our loyal volunteers, but it’s a privilege this month to thank the wonderful staff that work with the residents of Lakeside. Cris Stafford manages a crew of knowledgeable, caring, and dedicated staff who make all the difference for the residents who choose to call Lakeside their home.
We enjoyed the beautiful weather and had ice cream sandwiches on the porch. We also went shopping at Dollar Tree. We dined at the Sunrise Café for their Saturday Breakfast Buffet and visited the Amish Store. We attended the Senior Citizen Dance at the Carroll County Civic Center and danced to some fine tunes by the Trailblazers. This occurs the first Tuesday of each month, so join us next time. Our biggest trip this month was to the Carroll County Office on Aging Senior Day at the Fair. We loaded up a group ready to enjoy some freebies, door prizes, Bingo, music, food and competitions. Our very own Bobby Pate won Ugliest Legs, Thai Saul won Prettiest Legs, Robye Lindsey won Oldest Lady at 97. Elbert Hatley was Honorable Mention for Oldest Man. In the Beauty contest Harry Walch won first runner-up for King and Robye Lindsey won Queen, Lonnelle McMillin won first Maid and Thai Saul won second maid. If you missed this year, don’t fret. You can come next year, and we’ll be there for sure!
One morning we sat around two bushels plus a mess of purple hull peas and reminisced about many a summer day spent this way and then our talented kitchen staff cooked a resident’s choice meal of squash dressing, greens, fresh peas, homegrown tomatoes, deviled eggs, sliced onion and cupcakes. We were almost too full to play Bingo that afternoon, mind you, I said almost.
School is back in session and that means Friday night football games and that equals hungry football players. The ladies made 70 box lunches for players to enjoy after their opening game.
August 15 was National Cowgirl and Cowboy Day, so we decided to have a Yeeee Haw Hoe Down. We wore our best western attire, and donned our cowboy hats and bandanas. We sang along to old Western hits and were entertained when Rita Trevathan sang Coal Miner’s Daughter for the group. We had a posse round-up with manager Cris Stafford being the bank-robbing bandit and the winner, Marilyn Ward, scored the bag of “loot” as a reward. We inflated Bessie the cow and had a cow milking showdown between Team Iris and Team Sunflower with the Irises taking the win and being rewarded with Milk Duds, Cow Tails and Malted Milk Balls. Then we had a lassoing contest and Charles Garner proved to be a roping pro. We feasted on Goldfish crackers from the fishing hole, hay bale rice Krispy treats and drank Muddy Creek Water Fruit Tea. We rustled up a good ole time at our western party.
We celebrated four birthdays in August: Carlene Kelley, Faye Jones, Alberta McCulley and Kay Ward. We celebrated the anniversary of Patricia and James Pitt. Congratulating them on 70 years of Holy Matrimony and we welcomed new resident Faye Hicks to the Lakeside Family.
The biggest news has yet to be shared. If you haven’t seen us in a while we are undergoing a remodel, and our new flooring was installed this month. We are proud of our beautiful home and love to show it off so stop in for a visit…. Until Next Time.
