November to Feature Many Candidates
From the Aug 20, 2024 e-EditionCARROLL COUNTY (August 15) — Candidates have qualified for local municipal elections in the November 5 general elections. Four municipalities — McKenzie, Huntingdon, Bruceton and Hollow Rock have contested elections.
The November 5 general elections include the U.S. President, U.S. Senator, U.S. House of Representatives, State Senators, State Representatives, and local municipalities.
The qualifying deadline for local municipal candidates was Thursday, August 15, noon. Below is a list of candidates whose names will appear on the ballot.
Municipal elections include the City of McKenzie, and towns of Atwood, Bruceton, Hollow Rock, Huntingdon and Trezevant.
McKenzie — Five candidates are seeking three council seats. Former Mayor Jill Holland, J Drew Beeler, Karen Toombs Fowler, Tim McBride, and Jessie Townes are the candidates for the three positions now held by Townes, Josefina Batton, and Beeler (appointed). There is not a mayoral race.
Huntingdon — Chad Edwards and Mayor Nina Smothers have both qualified to seek the office of mayor of Huntingdon. Four council seats are on the ballot. William Atkins, Chad Barnhart, Adam Crews, Lori Dillahunty, Daniel Eubanks and Barbara Knuutila have all qualified to seek the office of Huntingdon Council member. The seats are now held by Atkins, Carl Byars, Lori Nolen, and Charles Hodges.
Trezevant — Mayor Bobby Blaylock, incumbent, is the lone candidate for his office. Three aldermen seats are available. Incumbents Robert Argo and Leon Lyell qualified to run for the office of alderman leaving one for write-in or appointment.
Atwood — Ricky Long and Gerald Mauldin have qualified to run for the two alderman seats. There is no mayoral election.
Bruceton — Chris Cole, Doug Fischer, Scotty Higdon,Cliff Sturdivant, and Renee Ford-Ward have qualified for the three positions of alderman. Cole, Higdon and Sturdivant now hold the seats. There is no mayoral election.
Hollow Rock — Six candidates have qualified for three aldermen seats. Howard Baker, Ashley Cook, Vivian Grooms, T. Richard Goodwin, Jeremy King, and Ronnie Webb have qualified for the office of alderman. There is no mayoral election.
