Officials Open State Route 76 with Ribbon Cutting

ATWOOD (December 13) — State and local officials gathered at the intersection of State Route 77 and the newly completed section of State Route 76 (US 79) on Friday, December 13 to mark the completion of the recently completed section of State Route 76.

At a ribbon-cutting ceremony, adjacent to the West Carroll Special School District office, Tennessee’s Deputy Governor and Commissioner of the Tennessee Department of Transportation Butch Eley, praised Governor Bill Lee, TDOT associates, Dement Construction Company, and others for completing the roadway.

Known to many locals as the Atwood bypass, the new section extends from SR 77 near West Carroll High School to State Route 76 in Milan. A second leg of the construction is underway to bypass downtown Trezevant. It will extend from State Route 77 to Cutlip Lane along the existing State Route 76 on the McKenzie side of Trezevant.

Nichole Lawrence, spokesperson for TDOT - District 4 based in Jackson, said the new highway was first planned when she was in high school, when her late father worked with TDOT.

Carroll County Mayor Joseph Butler, State Senator John Stevens, State Representative Brock Martin and State Representative Tandy Darby all praised Governor Bill Lee, the associates of TDOT, and Dement Construction Company.
