From the Oct 8, 2024 e-EditionMcKENZIE (October 2) - McKenzie Elementary held its annual Walk-to-School Day Wednesday with excellent participation. At least 302 students, 177 guardians and a few dogs made the morning trek, which was blessed with beautiful weather.
Upon arriving, students were greeted by athletes from McKenzie High School and Bethel University and given a sticker.
A particularly large group gathered at the home of Karen Fowler and made the trip down Tennessee Street together.
Many others walked in smaller groups. Parents, grandparents, siblings older and younger and even a few canine companions accompanied the kids.
School officials were thrilled with the turnout, which far surpassed the previous year.
