Mrs. Hutchison died Tuesday, June 3, after a long illness.
She was born July 8, 1937, to Roy and Francis Allen in Ridgely, Tennessee.
She is survived by her children, Timothy Hutchison (Patty) of Jackson, Michael Hutchison (Marcie) of McKenzie; and Donna Watson of Marietta, Georgia; grandchildren, Nicholas Hutchison (Heather), Tricia Gulikers, Amy Kruzich (Zack), Matthew Hutchison (Nicole), Megan Gottshall, Susan Baird (Charlie), Sarah Farias (Kleber), and Daniel Watson; 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews; and a sister, Martha Hastings.
She is predeceased by her husband of 48 years, Donald; her mother, Francis Allen; her dad, Roy Allen; her stepmother, Mattie Allen; two sisters, Mary Ann Sydnor, and Faye Nell Allen; and a brother, Phillip Allen.
Peggy and husband, Don, operated two businesses in McKenzie — the former Montgomery Ward store and Tri-County Transportation. The couple traveled the world when Don was enlisted during his career in the Navy. They lived in Washington state, Texas, Mississippi, and Florida before returning to her childhood home of McKenzie.
Mrs. Hutchison was a member of First Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was involved in supporting foreign missions through fundraising. She produced and sold cookbooks and made aprons to support missions.
In her early years, her family faced many tragedies. Her mother, Francis, age 19, died while giving birth to Peggy’s younger sister, Faye Nell, who died at the age of four after being severely burned. Her brother, Phillip, died in a car crash while he was in high school.
As a child, Peggy spent one year in a Memphis hospital with tuberculosis. While hospitalized, her stepmother, Mattie, was involved in a workplace accident and lost both legs.
