Playground at McKenzie Splash Pad to Open in Spring
From the Feb 3, 2026 e-Edition
Area kids will have even more to do in downtown McKenzie this spring as a new playground is being installed adjacent to the McKenzie Station Splash Pad between Waldren Street and North Stonewall.
According to Parks Director Billy Hollowell, the equipment is in place. Between now and spring, the ground will be leveled, concrete poured and soft surfacing applied.
The new facility will open in conjunction with the splash pad opening for the season, typically in May.
Features of the new playground include two slides, a climbing wall and an elevated fort and tunnel.
The playground is geared toward ages 2-12.
The equipment was acquired last year when a favorable price could be secured. The work is being performed by the Parks and Recreation Department, further reducing the total price of the project.
Appearing in last year's budget, the total cost of the new playground is $32,000, funded fully by the city.
