Rebels Close Preseason Strong at Henry County Jamboree

PARIS (August 15) — The McKenzie High School Rebels completed their preseason football schedule Friday at the Henry County High School Football Jamboree with a strong showing against the McCracken County Mustangs.
The Rebels played for one hour, outscoring the Mustangs 20-14, but more importantly, making some final adjustments and evaluations leading into the regular season. McKenzie hosts rival Huntingdon Friday at 7 p.m.
McCracken County had the first possession, and the McKenzie defense allowed one first down before shutting the drive down.
The Rebels also managed one first down on their opening drive before punting, but forced a three-and-out on the Mustangs' second possession.
McKenzie found a rhythm in their second drive, going 64 yards on five plays, capped by a one-yard keeper by quarterback Cole Brown. Aiden Mason kicked the point-after, and the Rebels led 7-0.
The Mustangs tied it with a five-play, 70-yard drive, 7-7.
The teams traded punts, then McKenzie went 68 yards on three plays. Timmy Arline ran for eleven, C. Brown threw to Lelan Gordon for 21, then C. Brown kept again for 36 yards. Another kick by Mason made it 14-7.
The Rebel defense continued to shine with another three-and-out.
McKenzie scored their final touchdown on a seven-play, 61-yard drive capped by a 14-yard pass from C. Brown to Avery Brown. Mason missed the kick, but the Rebels led 20-7.
The teams swapped punts again, then McCracken County sustained a long drive to score again and make it 20-14.
The Rebels took over and managed two plays before time expired.
