Rebels Defeat Mustangs

HUNTINGDON (April 6) — Huntingdon Middle School baseball hosted McKenzie Monday afternoon. A big fourth inning was the difference as the visiting Rebels took an 11-4 win in five innings.

McKenzie struck first with a run in the top of the first. Huntingdon took the lead with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second, then scored two more in the third. The Rebels charged back with six runs in the fourth and added four in the fifth.

Rebel Seth Stafford was 1-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a stolen base. Kenden Coleman was 2-for-3 with an RBI and two runs scored. Leighem Broyles was 2-for-3 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base. Reed Gaskins was 1-for-3 with two runs scored. Rex Thompson was 0-for-1 with a walk and two runs scored. Jackson Barden was 0-for-1 with a run scored and a stolen base. Jake Ghyers was 0-for-3 with two runs scored and a stolen base. Lane Brown was 0-for-4 with an RBI and a stolen base. Dierks Ghyers was 0-for-3 with a walk and a run scored.

Mustang Elijah Harris was 2-for-2 with a walk, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base. Banks Butler was 1-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Bryson Bolen was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Bryce Maddox was 0-for-1 with a walk and a run scored. Miller Holmes was 0-for-1 with two walks. Cohen Gray was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored. Nathan Huss was 0-for-3 with an RBI.

Leighem Broyles earned the win for McKenzie, allowing four runs (two earned) on four hits while walking one and striking out six in three innings. Lane Brown pitched an inning of relief, allowing no runs or hits while walking five and striking out one. Seth Stafford threw the final frame, allowing no runs, hits or walks while striking out three.

Bryce Maddox took the loss for Huntingdon, allowing five runs (one earned) on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts in three and a third innings. Bryson Bolen pitched one inning of relief, allowing six unearned runs on two hits while walking two and striking out two. Banks Butler pitched the final two-thirds of an inning, allowing no runs, hits or walks.
