Rebels Fall to Chargers

MARTIN (December 16) — The McKenzie High School Rebels traveled Monday to face Westview in a boys-only night of basketball. The Chargers jumped out to a big lead early and extended it in the third quarter en route to a 73-47 win.
Westview had a 21-5 lead after the opening frame, led by Tayshun Walker with eleven points, including a trio of three-pointers. Miles Brown scored six, and Asa Barnes had four points. Rebels Cole Brown and Tate Surber each had a pair, and Carter Kee hit a free throw.
The Chargers had a 14-13 edge in the second quarter. Walker and Graham Simpson each hit a three, and M. Brown, Donteze Joy, Messiah Ward and Tyler Belew each had a pair. Avery Brown led McKenzie with five points, including a three. Surber scored four, and Kee and Craegen Travis each had a pair. At the half, the Chargers led 35-18.
Westview enjoyed a 23-11 advantage in the third, led by Walker and James Turner with five points each, Walker with a three. M. Brown and Alex Evans each scored four, Simpson hit a three, and Ward added a pair. Surber led the Rebels with seven points, including a three. Kee also hit a three, and Landon Brown hit a free throw. Heading into the final frame, Westview led 58-29.
McKenzie trimmed the final deficit with an 18-15 rally in the fourth, led by A. Brown with six points on a pair of threes. Surber also hit a three-pointer. Travis, Nolan Fawcett, Kason Brown and Cooper Davidson each had a pair, and C. Brown hit a freebie. Charger Caleb Campbell had four points. Jashun Ward hit a three, and M. Ward, Turner, Belew and Moses Lyell each had a pair.
Westview’s Tayshun Walker led all scorers with 19 points, including five three-pointers. Miles Brown scored a dozen.
Tate Surber led McKenzie with 16 points, including a pair of threes. Avery Brown scored eleven with a trio of three-pointers.
