Rebels, Mustangs Host First-Round Games
From the Nov 4, 2025 e-EditionThe five-round, single-elimination gauntlets that are the TSSAA Football State Playoffs begin Friday, November 7. McKenzie and Huntingdon host first-round games in their respective brackets.
The McKenzie Rebels (9-1), as Region 6-1A champions, host Huntland (6-4), the four seed out of Region 5-1A. With a win, the Rebels will host a second-round game.
A new twist in the TSSAA bracket system shakes up second-round possibilities. For example, McKenzie's potential opponents are Region 8 two-seed Oakhaven (7-3) and Region 7 three-seed Greenfield (6-4), who meet in the first round.
Under the previous format, teams from Regions 5 and 6 wouldn't face teams from 7 and 8 until the fourth round (semifinals).
In Class 2A, Huntingdon (9-1, Region 7 two seed) hosts Region 8 three-seed Memphis Business (6-4). The Mustangs are also in position to host round two.
Huntingdon's potential second-round opponents are Region 5 champion Lewis County (9-1) and Region 6 four-seed Houston County (4-6).
All playoff games kick off at 7 p.m.
