Rebels, Mustangs Tie; Fillies Earn Sweep

Mustang Alijah Hastings makes a return in singles play.

McKENZIE (March 31) — McKenzie High School hosted Huntingdon at Bethel University's tennis courts Tuesday for district matches. The boys tied 2-2, while the Fillies swept McKenzie 7-0.

In boys' doubles, the Rebel duo of Owen Walker and Davarion Gilbert defeated Mustangs Kyle Byrd and Eli Hays (8-3).

In singles, Tobey Brooks secured the lone McKenzie win over Caden Cargile (8-6), while Mustang Shawn Simpson bested Walker (8-2) and Alijah Hastings topped Gilbert (8-3).

In girls' doubles, Huntingdon duo Jazmine Seiber and Mary Kendall Stevens defeated Lady Rebels Ava Hastings and Ashley Dunavant (8-2), and Celeste Perez and Lila Reed topped Raychel Oliver and Lola Sumrok (8-3). In exhibition, Fillies Kensley Rich and Madisyn Barton bested Morgan Little and Lillian Brown (8-5).

In singles, Seiber defeated Hastings (8-2), Stevens topped Dunavant (8-1), Perez bested Oliver (8-6), Reed defeated Little (8-4) and Rich topped Brown (8-1). The Fillies also swept four exhibition matches as Barton defeated Sumrok (8-1), Mandie Hodge topped Molly Drewry (8-6), Maria Barreto De Vicente bested Mary Ryan Morris (6-2) and Vicente defeated Aurora Nix (6-1).
