Rebels Rout Greenfield in Home Opener

McKENZIE (March 5) — McKenzie High School hosted Greenfield Thursday for the first home game of the young baseball season. A big first inning set the tone for the Rebels en route to a 12-6 win.
McKenzie scored five in the bottom of the first frame. The Yellowjackets responded with three in the top of the second, but the Rebels plated a pair in both the third and fourth innings. Greenfield managed a couple of runs in the top of sixth, answered by three McKenzie runs in the home half. The Yellowjackets tacked on one in the seventh.
Rebel Aiden Legens was 1-for-3 with a home run, a walk, three RBIs and three runs scored. Fletcher Holt was 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, two RBIs and a run scored. Xander Johnsey was 1-for-4 with a triple and two runs scored. Cole Brown was 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and a stolen base. Avery Brown was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Cooper Davidson was 1-for-3 with a walk.
Greenfield’s Easton Sullivan was 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Baker Biggs was 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Baylor Vujicic was 0-for-1 with three walks and two runs scored.
Fletcher Holt earned the win on the mound for McKenzie, allowing three unearned runs on three hits while walking four and striking out six in five innings. Lelan Gordon pitched an inning and a third of hitless relief, allowing three unearned runs while walking three and striking out two. Avery Brown recorded the final two outs with no hits, runs or walks.
Will Edwards took the loss for the Yellowjackets, allowing eight runs (one earned) on three hits with two walks and six strikeouts in three and a third innings. Phillip Scates threw an inning and two-thirds of relief, allowing one earned run on two hits while walking one and striking out one. Alexander Blackwell pitched the final frame, allowing three earned runs on one hit while walking four and striking out one.
