Rebels, Tigers Win Openers

BRUCETON (April 30) — The District 12A Baseball Tournament, hosted by Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central High School, continued Thursday with two contests. First, the McKenzie Rebels routed the McEwen Warriors, 9-1. Then, the host Tigers cruised to a 10-1 win over the Clarksburg Rockets.

McKenzie Rebels 9, McEwen Warriors 1

McKenzie struck first with five runs in the bottom of the second inning, then added two each in the third and fourth. McEwen’s lone run came in the top of the fifth.

Rebel Fletcher Holt was 2-for-3 with a walk, three RBIs and a run scored. Avery Brown was 1-for-2 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run scored. Cole Brown was 1-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Hudson Garrett was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs scored. Lelan Gordon was 1-for-4. Parker Ross was 0-for-2 with a walk, a run scored and a stolen base. Ace Brown was 0-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored. Xander Johnsey was 0-for-3 with an RBI-sacrifice fly.

Warrior Colt Tummins was 3-for-4. Kainan Gill was 1-for-2 with a walk, an RBI and a stolen base. Knox Parham was 1-for-3. Tylon Carter was 1-for-4. Caden Wallace was 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Xander Johnsey earned the win for McKenzie, allowing one unearned run on two hits while walking none and striking out five in four and two-thirds innings. Avery Brown pitched the final two and a third innings, allowing no runs on four hits and two walks.

Jack Grigsby took the loss for McEwen, allowing five earned runs on two hits while walking four and striking out one in an inning and two-thirds. Mason Oliphant pitched the final four and a third innings, allowing four unearned runs on four hits while walking none and striking out one.

Central Tigers 10, Clarksburg Rockets 1

Central got on the board first with a run in the bottom of the first frame. Clarksburg tied it with a run in the top of the third, but the Tigers regained the lead with two in the home half. Central added two more in the fourth, then pulled away with five in the sixth.

Tiger Parker Boyd was 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs. Braxton Howard was 1-for-4 with a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base. Brody Huff was 2-for-3 with a sacrifice fly, two RBIs and a run scored. Tanner Walters was 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored. Drake Hollingsworth was 2-for-4 with two RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. Dalton Howard was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Gage Weatherly was 1-for-3. Brayden Maness was 0-for-2 with a walk, a sacrifice fly, an RBI and two runs scored.

Rocket Greysen Jones was 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Samuel Wallace was 1-for-2 with a walk. Garrett Bartholomew was 1-for-3 with a walk. Trae Cobb was 1-for-3 with a run scored. Jake Miller was 1-for-4.

Gage Weatherly earned the win for Central, allowing one unearned run on three hits while walking one and striking out five in four and a third innings. Junah Smith pitched an inning and two-thirds of relief, allowing no runs on three hits with no walks and a strikeout. Brayden Maness threw two-thirds of an inning, allowing no runs or hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Drake Hollingsworth pitched the final third of an inning, allowing no runs, hits or walks with one strikeout.

Reagan Halter took the complete-game loss for Clarksburg, allowing ten runs (six earned) on 12 hits while walking one and striking out two.
