HUNTINGDON (September 7) — Carroll County Relay For Life held its annual main event Saturday at the Carroll County Civic Center, raising $24,264.59 for the American Cancer Society from sponsorships, donations and team deposits.
Combined with proceeds from other events throughout the year, such as the Cancer Bake Auction and the celebrity waiter dinner, the Carroll County organization has raised $47,388.59 so far.
The theme for 2024 was “Superheroes for Hope.”
Co-Chairs for the event were Jennifer Horton and Michelle Tucker. Carl Byars served as master of ceremonies. Nicole Todd performed the National Anthem, and Horton delivered an opening prayer. A moment of silence was also held in honor of loved ones with cancer.
Honorary Chair Cliff Sturdivant spoke about his journey with cancer, from his diagnosis to treatment, and how it has and continues to affect his life. He closed with a plea to all to get screened yearly for the best chance of early detection.
Entertainment inside the civic center began with the Bethel Renaissance Bluegrass Band and continued with Cherrywine 451.
