Ronnie Wade Candidate Announcement

To the Voters and Citizens of Carroll County:

My name is Ronnie Wade, and I currently serve as one of the Carroll County Road Supervisors. For those who may not know me, I have lived in Carroll County my entire life. I am the son of Jimmy Wade and the late Melba Wade of the Mixie Community.

I was fortunate to grow up working alongside my father, learning to operate heavy equipment at an early age. That experience gave me a strong work ethic and a practical understanding of the work I continue to do today. I attended school in Huntingdon and graduated from Huntingdon High School in 1987.

My wife, the former Pam Smothers of Westport (a Clarksburg High School graduate), and I have been married for 36 years. Together, we have raised two daughters, Tiffany and Kelcie, and we are proud grandparents to our 15-month-old grandson, Slade.

Serving my community has always been important to me. I have served for many years as Chief of the Carroll County Fire Department, District 2 (Vale). I also serve as Trustee and President of the Vale Community Center and am a member of Faith Baptist Church in Hollow Rock.

My career began as a truck driver before moving into the fire equipment industry. I later owned and operated Ronnie Wade's Towing and Trucking in Bruceton for nine years. For the past 11 years, I have been employed with the Carroll County Highway Department, where I have worked in nearly every aspect of the department's operations. Those experiences have given me firsthand knowledge of the equipment, the employees, the daily responsibilities, and the challenges involved in maintaining our county roads.

I gave considerable thought and prayer before deciding to run for Road Supervisor in 2022, and I approached this election with the same careful consideration. I have never taken the responsibilities of this office lightly.

For the first time in Carroll County's history, voters will elect one Road Supervisor instead of two. Many people I have spoken with were unaware of this recent change in state law. With one supervisor assuming all of the responsibilities previously shared by two, it is more important than ever to elect someone who understands every aspect of the job and is prepared to meet those increased demands.

I want you to know that I am ready, willing, and able to accept those additional responsibilities. This is a 24-hour-a-day, seven-day-a-week position. When emergencies occur — whether it is a tree blocking a roadway, storm damage, or another urgent situation — the Road Supervisor is responsible for responding. Over the past four years, I have personally responded to approximately 90 percent of those calls.

The position also requires a thorough understanding of the laws governing county roads and the ability to ensure the Highway Department operates in compliance with those laws. Just as importantly, the supervisor must carefully manage the department's budget to maintain all 723 miles of county roads in Carroll County. That often requires making difficult decisions that may not always please everyone, but making those decisions responsibly is part of serving in this position.

I am fortunate to work alongside an outstanding group of Highway Department employees who take great pride in their work each day. Their dedication and commitment deserve recognition, and I am grateful for everything they do to serve the citizens of Carroll County.

In closing, I want to sincerely thank you for the trust and confidence you placed in me four years ago. It has been an honor to serve as your Road Supervisor. I want to continue building on the progress we have made and work to ensure that the Carroll County Highway Department remains one of the finest in the State of Tennessee.
