The McKenzie Rotary Club and the Fannye Baxter Moore Fund combined resources to donate $1,000 to the McKenzie First Responders Christmas for Kids program.

The local club is actively supporting the third annual event that provides Christmas gifts for children.

McKenzie Police Chief Ryan White and McKenzie Fire Department Assistant Chief Roger Christian along with firefighter/EMT Lacey Lane accepted the giant facsimile check from Rotarian Kim Webb and Rotary President Ricky Price.

Chief White said the local first responders worked with Beta Sigma Phi’s Angel Tree Project to assure children in the McKenzie community have a wonderful Christmas. Jennifer Waldrup has helped with the Angel Tree Project for probably 30 years, according to White.

Approximately 60 kids are lined up for the shopping spree on December 15. The kids will go to Walmart with first responders - police, firefighers, TWRA agents, THP officers, and others.

The first responders also support the Angel Tree project and will support another 20 kids at $100 per child. A total of 80 kids are supported through combined efforts.
