McKenzie Rotary Continues to Grow
From the Apr 16, 2024 e-Edition
McKENZIE (April 9) — On Tuesday, the McKenzie Rotary Club welcomed two new members into the club. Bethel University men’s basketball coach Jeff Britt and paralegal Phoebe Presson were inducted by Club President Jason R. Martin, who explained the significance of Rotary locally and globally.
Each new member received a certificate of membership, a challenge coin, and a welcome packet explaining about Rotary. Since July 2023, the McKenzie organization has inducted 13 new members representing 41% growth.
The club was founded in 1937 in McKenzie. It has a sister foundation, a local fund known as the Fannye Baxter Moore Fund that assists worthy, needy McKenzians.
Rotary is a club network of over 1.4 million neighbors, friends, leaders, and problem-solvers who see a world where people unite and take action to create lasting change — across the globe and in our local communities. For many years, the McKenzie organization has purchased winter jackets for needy children, hosted honors banquets at the middle and high school, provided scholarships, and helps those in need.
Rotary has worked to eradicate polio for more than 35 years. Our goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever. Rotary members have contributed more than $2.1 billion and countless volunteer hours to protect nearly 3 billion children in 122 countries from this paralyzing disease. Rotary’s advocacy efforts have played a role in decisions by governments to contribute more than $10 billion to the effort. Polio remains endemic only in Afghanistan and Pakistan while other cases have been discovered in the United States.
The McKenzie Rotary Club meets Tuesdays at noon at Bethel University’s Vera Low Building.
