Rotary Learns About TnAchieves
From the Sep 17, 2024 e-Edition
Ben Sterling with TnAchieves spoke to the Rotary Club of McKenzie on September 10 concerning mentorship of high school seniors as they prepare for post-secondary educational opportunities.
First-generation college students often need some guidance as they enter college. Mr. Sterling said the mentoring program helps students maneuver the steps of seeking financial aid and be the on-to person for many things first-year students encounter.
The program assists 90,000 students annually, 90 percent of which are high school seniors.
The program needs 5,000 mentors by November 15.
Each mentor has to register, select a preferred high school, and complete an in-person meeting. Each mentor is assigned 2-3 students to mentor. The mentoring program helps assure students have a successful transition from high school to post-secondary education.
