Rotary Hears About United Way of West TN
From the Nov 5, 2024 e-Edition
McKENZIE (October 29) — The Rotary Club of McKenzie heard about United Way of West Tennessee during its Tuesday noon program, held in the Vera Low on Bethel University.
Stefania Wheeler is the Director of Donor Development for the agency, that serves as a community chest for area non-profit agencies. Wheeler said as a young mother, she was the recipient of some of the human services partially funded by United Way. She received her skills training at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology and graduated as a recession hit. She eventually worked for Forcum-Lannom and served as the capacity of fund-raising chairman for United Way, COVID relief funds, etc. When the United Way position opened, she was well prepared to take on the challenge.
Rotary members were impressed with her story of immigrating from Venezula, enrolling in a Tennessee school as a Spanish-speaking student, and overcoming many diversities. She is now an American citizen and works to serve others through United Way.
She is pictured between Ricky Price, vice-president of Rotary-McKenzie and Christy Williams, president.
