From the Jul 29, 2025 e-EditionMr. Samuel C. Sanders, 93, of Huntingdon, Tennessee, died on Saturday July 26, 2025 at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
He was born on November 4, 1931, in Huntingdon, Tennessee, to the late John and Esther Comer Sanders.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy A. Sanders, three of his children: Ray C. Sanders, Samuel C. Sanders Jr., and Sherry Jane Sanders; siblings Reba Hall, Ravanell Britt, John Sanders Jr., Charles Kenneth Sanders, Paul Sanders, Naomi Dillahunty and Jean Barnhart.
He is survived by two daughters who lovingly carry on his legacy: Samantha A. Gruszkowski of Crown Point, Indiana (husband Joe), and Sandra C. Sanders of Sarasota, Florida. He was a proud grandfather to six grandchildren: Brittany M. Denton of DeMotte, Indiana (husband Tim), Joseph D. Gruszkowski Jr. of Crown Point, Indiana, Matthew R.W. Smolin Jr. of Fort Collins Colorado, Melissa S. Smolin of Nashville, Tennessee, Karla K. Frierson of Nashville, Tennessee,(wife Angie) and Zachary R. Sanders of Nashville, Tennessee (wife Ashley). He also leaves behind one cherished great-granddaughter, Teagan M. Denton of DeMotte, Indiana; brother Dwight (Susan) Sanders of Huntingdon, Tennessee and one daughter-in-law Amy Sanders of Huntingdon, Tennessee.
He shared a special bond with his dear friend, Kathie Parrish of McKenzie, Tennessee, who remained faithfully by his side in the later years of his life.
Sam had a deep love for horses, music, and the freedom of the open road on his motorcycle. He was known for his strength, his stories, and living his life to the fullest.
A graveside service is Monday, July 28 at 11 a.m. at Long Rock Cemetery in Huntingdon, Tennessee.
There will be no public visitation. Family and friends are asked to meet at the cemetery. Sam will be remembered with love, missed with sorrow, and honored with gratitude for the life he lived and the legacy he leaves behind.
