Assault on Law Enforcement Officer — On September 18, Sgt. Sean Bongiovanni responded to Huntingdon Baptist Hospital regarding an unruly patient awaiting transport to a mental health facility.

Deputies made contact with Stephen Miles, 52, of McKenzie, who had reportedly become violent with hospital staff after previously being transported to the hospital from a behavioral health facility. As deputies attempted to escort him from the hospital, Miles allegedly struck Sgt. Bongiovanni in the head with his own head.

Miles was arrested and charged with assault on a law enforcement officer. He was transported to the Carroll County Jail, where he remained awaiting a mental evaluation after officials sought another treatment facility.

Identity Theft — On September 18, Deputy Dillon Crowe investigated a report of identity theft.

A Trezevant woman reported receiving a phone call from someone claiming to represent the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, who convinced her to provide information that allowed access to her bank accounts. Four unauthorized transactions totaling $3,262.30 were attempted before a family member discovered the fraud.

The victim notified her bank, the Social Security Administration, the DMV, and other financial institutions. Verizon employees also advised that two phones linked to her account were connected to Pakistan. Investigator Angel Furr was notified, and the case remains under investigation.

False Pretenses/Scam — On September 25, Deputy Christopher Adams investigated a fraud report involving an online scam.

A man reported that someone tried to sell baseball cards through Facebook, but a buyer instructed him to upgrade his PayPal account to a business account before payment could be completed. Believing the requests were legitimate, the complainant completed five money transfers totaling $4,623.76.

A fraud claim was filed with PayPal, and deputies collected copies of the online messages as evidence.

Theft by Fraud — On September 25, Deputy Michael Smith investigated a rental scam.

A Huntingdon man reported finding a house for rent on Facebook Marketplace and paying an $80 application fee before sending a $400 deposit after being told he had been approved. When communication stopped, the complainant contacted the real estate company and learned the listing had been used in a scam.

First Bank advised the complainant to file a police report. The reported loss totaled $480.

Possession of Schedule VI Marijuana/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Driving on Revoked License — On September 26, Deputy Alex Sherwood conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle failing to dim its high beams for oncoming traffic.

Deputies found the driver, Keri Sexton, 33, of Huntingdon, had a revoked Tennessee driver’s license and an active Madison County warrant. During the stop, deputies reported Sexton attempted to discard a digital scale containing marijuana residue. A search of the vehicle also located loose marijuana, six THC vape devices and a marijuana pipe with residue.

Sexton was arrested and charged with possession of Schedule VI marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a revoked license. Officers towed her vehicle pending forfeiture proceedings.

Domestic Assault — On September 27, Deputy Bradley Hardin investigated a domestic assault report involving Gregory Curtis, 57, of McKenzie.

Deputies learned an argument between Curtis and a family member escalated after the victim attempted to leave the residence. According to the investigation, Curtis grabbed the victim by the shirt, shoved him onto a couch, and then pushed him off the front porch while attempting to force him out of the home. The victim reported the confrontation caused pain to his neck and shoulder and stated Curtis had been physically abusive during previous incidents that had not been reported to law enforcement because he did not want to make the family mad at him but this was the last straw.

Deputy Hardin observed redness and a small abrasion consistent with the victim’s account of the altercation. After completing the investigation and determining probable cause existed, Deputy Hardin obtained a warrant charging Curtis with domestic assault.

Later that day, Deputy Dennis Adkins located Curtis and served the warrant.

Dog Bite — On September 27, Deputy Bradley Hardin responded to a report of a dog bite after a person was attacked by a dog while walking in Carroll County.

The victim reported being bitten without provocation, sustaining injuries that required medical treatment. Deputies documented the injuries and gathered information about the dog and its owner as part of the investigation.

Deputies advised the dog’s owner of the complaint and documented the incident for follow-up. Deputies also notified the appropriate agencies regarding the attack.

DUI Arrest — On September 16, Sgt. Bo Ezell conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle fail to maintain its lane and travel 55 mph in a 35-mph zone. The driver, Keyshun Hoard, was found to have open beer bottles inside the vehicle, and Sgt. Ezell detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. During the investigation, Hoard reportedly made spontaneous statements to the officer and resisted efforts to be handcuffed and placed into the patrol vehicle and refusing lawful commands. Hoard refused implied consent testing after being advised of the Tennessee Implied Consent Law. He was transported to the Carroll County Jail and charged with DUI (1st offense), resisting arrest, violation of implied consent, open container and failure to maintain lane. Sgt. Bo Ezell filed the report.
