Southern Fried Funnies is A Hoot and A Half

McKENZIE — Carroll Arts, Inc. presented its annual Southern Fried Funnies: A Classy Redneck Variety Show production on August 21 and 23, coinciding with the City of McKenzie’s Sweet Tea Festival.
The production offered silly, family-friendly sketches and jokes inspired by Hee Haw, the Carol Burnett Show, Abbott and Costello, The Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis Comedy Hour, The Tim Conway Comedy Hour, Minnie Pearl and Ray Stevens. With music by Steve Morris, Steve Bomar and Carl Byars and “You Might Be A Redneck” jokes during brief breaks and intermissions, audiences were kept entertained from beginning to end.
Cast members included Becky Allen, Carol Armpriest, Scott Armpriest, Alene Ball, Darryl Ball, Nancy Davenport, Veronica Giaimo Davis, Andrew Evans, Mayor Ryan Griffin, Thomas Keenan, Marlene Kreuter, Destiny Lane, Lynda Lankford, Patricia Lee, Brittany Martin, Melissa McDonald, Fran Musser, Joanne Ownby, Martha Sue Peters, Gina Rainey, Glynda Rich, Brad Sam, Jesse Turner and Isaac Stephen Walker.
Glynda Rich and Denise Sam directed the southern-fried production.

New Portrait of Hal Holbrook Unveiled at The Dixie PAC
HUNTINGDON, Tenn. — The legacy of the late actor Hal Holbrook has been immortalized in a new oil portrait, unveiled Wednesday, August 19, at the Dixie Carter Performing Arts Center. The painting, created by artist and former art professor Lindon Noe, now hangs in the Center, serving as a companion piece to an existing portrait of Holbrook’s wife, the late Dixie Carter-Holbrook.
