HUNTINGDON (April 12) — Students with intellectual disabilities from the county’s five special school districts displayed their prowess in sporting events during Special Olympics held at Huntingdon’s Paul Ward Stadium on Friday, April 12.

Elementary and middle school students were the star athletes who competed in disc toss, relay races, soccer, foam dart throwing, obstacle course run, ring toss, and ball toss.

Through the power of sports, people with intellectual disabilities discover new strengths and abilities, skills and success. The athletes find joy, confidence and fulfillment—on the playing field and in life.

Volunteers from each of the schools and Bethel University assisted with the event. Student-athletes who excelled earned medals for the effort.

Huntingdon High School’s Student Mentors and Health Council took a lead role in the event.

Students, parents, and supporters filled the stands to cheer the athletes.
