Huntingdon Students Create Storybook Trail at Kelley Complex
From the May 20, 2025 e-Edition
HUNTINGDON (May 14) — On Wednesday, Huntingdon High students taking part in JAG (Jobs of America’s Graduates) and serving as Mustang Mentor held a ribbon-cutting ceremony signifying the opening of Storybook Trail at Kelley Sports Complex. The trail located adjacent to the Carroll County Inclusion Park has several panels the students created from the book “My Voice Is A Trumpet” written by Jimmie Allen and illustrated by Cathy Ann Johnson.
The walking trail / storybook trail is the first installment at Kelley Complex.
The book was part of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. The students brainstormed and added prompts to each page for the children to interact as they read and move from panel to panel along the trail. The JAG students chose this as part community service project.
Students presented for approval their idea for the trail to the Mayor and Town Council at Kelley Sports Complex. Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation, Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library, Carroll County Library and Friends of Carroll County Library, Carroll County Inclusion Park, and Huntingdon Special School District helped sponsor the project allowing the students’ vision to come to fruition.
