Wit and Wisdom: Stress is Good for Us
From the May 12, 2026 e-Edition
I think God allows these things to happen to give us an opportunity to grow stronger. If we never had to struggle to get through hard times, our spirit wouldn’t grow.
It would be like an athlete that never worked out. How could he get better if he didn’t work out and experience having sore muscles from a workout?
The only way to grow muscles is to put stress on them, and the only way to build our character, our inner being, is to be put under stress.
What God hopes we’ll do when we’re under so much stress that we don’t think we can endure it is to turn to Him and recognize our dependence on Him to meet all our needs.
And when we do that, we’ll find we’re just a bit stronger the next time trouble rolls around.
