HUNTINGDON (June 8) — The Carroll County Library kicked off its summer reading program with huge fanfare Monday morning. The kick-off gave children the opportunity to sign-up for the library’s summer reading challenge while also interacting with the summer reading program theme, “Unearth a Story.”

Dinosaurs were hidden all over the library, and children searched far and wide to find and adopt them. All the while, they were served various snacks and were free to peruse the library for their next read.

Children could sign up for the summer reading challenge, choosing to count either the number of books they read over the summer or the amount of time they spend reading over the summer (on a 30 minute or hour basis). Children will receive a point with the completion of each book, 30 minutes or hour of reading.

Outside the library, several vendors were set up to inform library patrons about various nonprofit programs available for Carroll Countians. Vendors included West Tennessee Legal Services, Tennessee Military & Family Reading Operations, West Tennessee Veterans Coalition, Carey Counseling Center, United Way of West Tennessee, AIMHiTN, Tennessee Childcare Resource & Referral, Northwest Tennessee Head Start and Early Head Start, CASA of Henderson and Carroll Counties, TN Voices, and the Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services.

Carroll County Library’s summer reading program continues throughout the summer. Upcoming events include Musical Storytime with Alice Hardin (June 10, 10:30 a.m.), a visit from West Tennessee Public Utility (June 11, 10:30 a.m.), Ferociously Friendly Friday Frenzy (June 12, all-day while supplies last), a visit from Smokey Bear (June 16, 10:30 a.m.) and Tot Time with Carroll County Mayor (June 17, 10:30 a.m.).

The Carroll County Library is located at 625 High Street, Suite 102, Huntingdon, Tenn. It is open Mondays through Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Fridays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon. The library is closed on Sundays.
