Sunrise Cafe Closes Unexpectedly
From the Jun 9, 2026 e-Edition
McKENZIE (June 8) — Sunrise Cafe, a beloved diner situated in downtown McKenzie, shuttered its doors on Monday.
The restaurant’s closure includes the ice cream parlor, which just recently opened.
The owners, Bill and Sherry Ann Westerveld, announced the sudden closure on June 6, citing unforeseen circumstances.
“We would like to thank all of our wonderful supportive customers,” the owners shared. “This last year has been a learning experience we all will cherish for a lifetime. We have gained so many friends and will be sad not to see you all every day.”
The Westervelds have owned Sunrise Cafe since 2025.
