Tate Surber Named Class 1A Mr. Football

NASHVILLE (December 10) — McKenzie’s Tate Surber was honored as Mr. Football for TSSAA Class 1A schools in Tennessee. He was honored by the Tennessee Titans Foundation at Nissan Stadium on Tuesday, December 10 during a luncheon in which the honorees, parents, coaches, and members of the media attended.
Mike Keith, voice of the Tennessee Titans, announced the winners.
Tate is a four-year starter for the McKenzie Rebels and has played in three state champion games in which the team won the state championship in 2022.
He is the third Mr. Football winner from McKenzie following Drew Hayes and Jackson Cassidy, all three as quarterbacks.
The distinction was based on his 2024 regular season statistics.
He had 2,904 total yards, 2,096/25 Touchdowns of passing yards, 808/21 TDs rushing. He played both offense and defense. He maintains a 4.0 GPA and was named Mr. MHS by his fellow students.
Tate is the son of Tommy and Meredith Surber. Tate’s father and brothers, Eli and Jack were all three quarterbacks for the Rebels.
Tate will continue his athletic and academic career at the University of Tennessee at Martin.
The other finalists for Mr. Football Class 1A were Nate Adams, Clay County and Bennett O’Neal McDougas, Whitwell High School.
