From the Feb 18, 2025 e-Edition
McKENZIE (February 3-7) — SkillsUSA officers, other students, staff and special guests at TCAT Henry/Carroll’s McKenzie campus celebrated SkillsUSA Week with events and activities each day.
On Monday, officers and advisors were recognized and treated to a potluck. Three officers were awarded for outstanding service at their position. Kalyn Wall is the 2024-25 TCAT Henry/Carroll SkillsUSA Student Secretary. Brantley Nanney is the student president, and Nick Abbot is the student treasurer.
Tuesday, officers Wall, Nanney, Paisley Allen, Sergio Campos and Robert McCaig did community service at the Carroll County Humane Society.
Wednesday, the campus hosted a Breakfast for Industry, inviting area high school principals and CTE directors along with the school’s industry partners.
Thursday, the student body gathered for presentations by the officers. The student leaders discussed their recent events, leadership training, and community outreach efforts.
The meeting recapped their first major event, the TCAT Halloween Bash, which featured a pumpkin carving contest, costume competition, and chili cook-off. Vice President Sergio Campos noted how the event strengthened teamwork among students.
Also highlighted was participation in statewide leadership training, where the officers connected with peers from other TCAT campuses, including representatives from Puerto Rico.
Community service efforts were highlighted, including a veterans breakfast, a canned food drive that collected 4,850 cans, and the aforementioned volunteer work at the Carroll County Humane Society.
Additionally, students attended a financial literacy seminar led by Christy Williams of Regions Bank, focusing on credit management and budgeting.
The gathering concluded with plans for future leadership training and career networking events.
Friday was SkillsUSA Color Day. Any students that wore Skills colors (red or Navy blue) was treated to a free doughnut.
SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel by providing educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education (CTE) in the nation’s classrooms.
