The Inglenook Book Club News

McKENZIE (June 11, 2025) — The Inglenook Book Club held its monthly meeting at the Lakeside Senior Living Community, with 18 members in attendance. President Gail Mack called the meeting to order, and everyone stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, the club's aim, and its motto. Gail extended her thanks to co-hostess Donna Ward for serving cherry-topped cheesecake, mini muffins, assorted chocolates, nuts, and beverages. Carolyn Moore, a member with a June birthday, was celebrated with a rendition of "Happy Birthday" sung by all.

Roll call was taken, followed by a reading of the May minutes, which were approved as presented. Treasurer Donna Ward then gave her report, which was also approved. The Sunshine Chair, Telephone Chair, and Publicity Chair each provided their reports; however, the Membership Chair was absent.

There was no old or new business to discuss, so President Mack invited Jean Hollomon to present the program. Jean spoke to the group about the late American novelist Thomas Leo Clancy Jr. She noted that she didn’t like his first book, found the second better, and became hooked by the third. Clancy was one of only three authors to sell 2 million copies in a first printing in the 1990s. It was a great program.

The book passing was conducted by Book Chair Mary Newman, with the next book passing scheduled for June 26. In announcements, Pedie Pedersen shared information about the new library in McKenzie and encouraged everyone to visit, as it is amazing. The next meeting will take place on July 9 at 3:00 PM at Lakeside. Hostess for the next meeting will be Elaine Williams, and the program will be presented by Carolyn Potts. Attendees are asked to bring personal hygiene items for donation to the school. The Benediction was recited by all, and the meeting was adjourned.
