I'm quite certain what I'm about to describe is not the way things really work, but in my imagination, it makes me feel warm and safe.

Suppose in heaven there is a massive wall, and on that wall there is a tiny light that represents every person on earth. It’s The Prayer Wall.

Whenever someone prays for themselves, their light shines, and whenever they pray for someone else, a beam of light travels from their light to the spot on The Prayer Wall of the person they’re praying for.

Legions of angels monitor The Prayer Wall day and night (actually, there is no night in heaven, but you get the point), and they report to the angel in charge of the wall.

Got the picture?

Well, several years ago, one of our daughters was in the hospital, hovering between life and death, kept alive by machines. It was a dark and scary time.

Almost immediately, angels monitoring the wall noticed a number of lights traveling to the exact same spot—our daughter’s place on the wall, as friends and family learned what was going on. However, as the hours and days passed, the number of light beams multiplied into the thousands, coming from all over the earth as word spread of the tragedy.

There were so many that the angel in charge was notified and after a quick look, spirited away to the throne of the Father.

“Father God, you must come see this.”

Never doubting his messengers, God took a look at The Prayer Wall himself.

“Something big is happening, something very important and meaningful to many people,” he said.

Then he knelt and looked down at our daughter.

“This is the work of Beelzebub, The Liar. Let the prayers sweep him away. Touch the hands and minds of those tending to her, for I will that she should live. We will give her another chance.”

Two weeks later, our daughter was sitting up, talking and making conversation because prayers got God’s attention.

Never underestimate the power of prayer.
