GLEASON (August 13) — Gleason Junior High opened their football season at home Thursday against Hollow Rock-Bruceton Central. The visiting Tigers controlled the game throughout, cruising to a 34-0 win.
The host Bulldogs received the opening kick but fumbled on four straight plays for a turnover on downs.
Keylan Gregory ran three straight times to start the first Central possession, earning a first down before having a 40-yard touchdown called back for a penalty. Briar Weatherly earned another first down, then Gregory broke multiple tackles for a 26-yard touchdown. A high snap doomed the two-point conversion, and the Tigers led 6-0 halfway through the first frame.
Gleason began their second drive at their 43. Liam Williams ran for seven yards, then Landon Aeschbacher gained four for a first down. Quarterback Jase Dilday kept for a short gain, then a false start backed the Bulldogs up. Williams was stopped for no gain as the first quarter ended. Dilday started the second quarter with a keeper for a short gain, then came up short on a fourth-down scramble.
Taking over near midfield, Weatherly had a big gain negated by a penalty. Gregory then took it 42 yards and followed with a 17-yard touchdown. Another two-point try failed due to a high snap, and Central led 12-0 with 5:26 to play in the second quarter.
Gleason went three-and-out and punted.
The Tigers took over near midfield. Weatherly ran 55 yards for a touchdown, but the score was negated by a block in the back penalty. Gregory took the next snap 42 yards to paydirt. The two-point try failed, and Central led 18-0 with three minutes to play in the half.
The Bulldogs quickly faced a fourth-and-one, but Aeschbacher converted. Dilday threw under pressure, and the ball was tipped to Tiger Scotty Whittenburg for an interception.
Taking over with nine seconds on the clock, Gregory took the first snap 70 yards to score. Weatherly threw to Skylar Jourdan for two points, and Central led 26-0 at the half.
Gleason began the second half with a successful onside kick. Aeschbacher ran twice for a first down, then Williams gained five on back-to-back carries. Dilday kept for a short gain to bring up fourth-and-four, and Williams moved the chains. The drive stalled there, and the Bulldogs turned it over on downs at the Tiger 23.
Central earned a first down as the third quarter ended, and Jourdan started the final frame with a 50-yard touchdown run. Weatherly kept for two points, and the Tigers led 34-0.
Gleason started the ensuing drive near midfield with a 31-yard run by Williams. Albe Collins ran for four, then Dilday had two carries for a first-and-goal at the 9. Two plays later, a fumble was recovered by Central at the 7.
