McKENZIE (September 6) — Two young men lost their lives when their work truck crossed into the path of a CSX train on Saturday, September 6, around 7:30 a.m. CDT.
According to a report by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Martin R. Perez, 26, was driving a 2022 model 5500 Dodge truck east on Harris Road, just outside McKenzie. Luke Scott, 18, was the passenger. The CSX train was southbound.
This is the second fatal accident at that railroad crossing within a month. Destiny Henry, 24, died on August 13.
Funeral arrangements for Luke Scott were Tuesday at McKenzie Church of Christ.
Local businesses have partnered in support of the young men’s families.
LaLa’s BBQ, of Huntingdon, will set up at McKenzie’s Phipps Pharmacy on Thursday, September 11, at 10 a.m., to sell 250 pulled pork and smoked bologna sandwich meals until sold out. The restaurant will set up again at Cashsaver in Huntingdon on Friday, September 12, from 10 a.m. until it runs out of supplies.
All donations will go toward both men’s funeral and burial costs.
