Unemployment Decreases Throughout Tennessee

NASHVILLE (April 2024) — Unemployment rates decreased in all 95 counties of Tennessee during April, according to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development.

Tennessee’s unemployment rate of 3.1 percent in April 2024 matches the April 2023 rate. Of the 3,404,394 in the state’s labor force, there were 3,297,851 employed, leaving 106,543 unemployed.

Carroll County’s rate of 3.1 percent in April matches the state’s percentage of unemployment. The April rate is less than the March 2024 rate of 3.3. Of the 11,757 in the labor force, there were 11,388 employed and 369 unemployed.

Henry County’s rate of 3.0 is down from 3.4 one month earlier and 3.1 percent one year earlier. From a labor force of 13,629, there were 13,216 employed and 413 unemployed.

Weakley County’s rate of 2.9 percent is less than the March rate of 3.1 and higher than the 2.8 rate one year earlier. From a labor force of 15,065, there were 14,625 employed and 440 unemployed.

The rate of unemployment is less than 5.0 percent in all 95 counties.

Williamson County has the lowest unemployment rate of 2.0 percent. Lauderdale County has the highest rate of unemployment at 4.1 percent.

The U.S. is experiencing the lowest unemployment rate in a half century. The national rate is 3.9 percent, with 161,491,000 employed and 6,492,000 unemployed.
