Unemployment Increases Slightly in Tri-Counties
From the Jul 2, 2024 e-EditionNASHVILLE — The tri-counties of Carroll, Henry and Weakley counties sustained a slight increase in unemployment in May as compared to one month earlier.
Tennessee experienced a slight decrease, landing at 3.0 percent in May as compared to 3.1 in April and 3.1 one year earlier.
Carroll County’s rate is 3.4 percent in May, up from 3.1 in April and down from the 3.6 rate one year earlier. From a labor force of 11,697, there were 11,302 employed and 395 unemployed.
Henry County’s rate of unemployment in May was 3.1 percent, up from the 3.0 percent in April and down from the 3.5 percent one year earlier. From a labor force of 13,603, there were 13,182 employed and 422 unemployed.
Weakley County’s rate of unemployment was 3.3 in May, compared to 3.0 in April and 3.5 one year earlier. From a labor force of 14,792, there were 13,310 employed and 482 unemployed.
Combining the three counties, there were 40,093 in the workforce, 38,794 had employment, and 1,299 were unemployed.
Of the 95 counties in Tennessee, no county had unemployed higher than 4.4 percent, which was recorded in Bledsoe County. The least unemployment was in Sevier County and Williamson County at 2.1 percent.
The unemployment rate in the United States was 4.0 percent in May.
