Unemployment Rate Decreases in Tri-Counties
From the May 6, 2025 e-EditionTENNESSEE (March 2025) — The unemployment rates in Carroll, Henry, and Weakley counties decreased in March compared to the previous month.
According to the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development (TDLWD), the state’s seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in March was 3.6%, down from 3.7% the month before. The rate had remained at 3.7% for six consecutive months. In March 2024, the rate was 3.1%.
Tennessee’s unemployment rate was six-tenths of a percentage point lower than the national rate of 4.2%. The U.S. rate was 4.1% in February and 3.9% one year ago.
In Carroll County, the unemployment rate for March was 3.8%, a decrease from 3.9% the previous month, but up from 3.6% a year earlier. Out of a labor force of 12,178, there were 11,716 employed and 462 unemployed.
In Henry County, the unemployment rate for March was 3.9%, down from 4.1% one month earlier and slightly up from 3.8% one year earlier. From a labor force of 12,961, there were 12,453 employed and 508 unemployed.
In Weakley County, the unemployment rate dropped to 3.5%, down from 3.7% the previous month but slightly up from 3.4% one year earlier. With a labor force of 13,083, there were 13,592 employed and 491 unemployed.
Williamson County recorded the lowest unemployment rate at 2.4%, followed by Cheatham at 2.6% and Rutherford at 2.7%.
Pickett County had the highest unemployment rate at 5.7%, followed by Hardeman County at 5.2%.
Overall, unemployment decreased in 70 counties, increased in eight, and remained the same in 17 counties compared to the February rate. Ninety-one counties had an unemployment rate of less than 5%, with four counties reporting rates between 5% and 5.7%.
