Unemployment Rate Decreases Slightly
From the Sep 1, 2026 e-EditionNashville - Tennessee’s unemployment rate fell by 0.1 percentage points in July, with Carroll and Henry counties also recording decreases. Weakley County was the only local county to see its unemployment rate increase during the month.
The Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development reported the state’s July unemployment rate at 3.4%, below the national rate of 4.1%. Of Tennessee’s 95 counties, 89 reported unemployment rates of 5% or less, while six counties had rates above 5% but below 10%.
Carroll County’s unemployment rate was 4.5% in July, down 0.3 percentage points from June and 0.7 percentage points from July 2025.
Henry County recorded a 4.4% unemployment rate, decreasing 0.2 percentage points from June and 0.1 percentage points from July 2025.
Weakley County’s unemployment rate increased 0.4 percentage points from June to 5.3% in July. Despite the monthly increase, the county’s rate was down 2.3 percentage points from July 2025.
